What do you fellow boarders think ?

During tea break, we were having a time pass chit chat with an old timer.
Something on the lines of -

Every 8 or so years the market booms and crash. E.g

1992 Harshad boom and crash
2000 IT boom and crash
2008 Infra/Mid cap/Financial boom and crash
2016 ?

There is no boom yet, will there be a crash without a boom,
or a boom and then a crash ?

---------------

What are your opinion on the effect of following on the indian bourses ?
Modi govt's action or lack of action
World market in general
Predicted regime of low crude prices
Anything else ?

No one can predict future...
If you believe in fundamentals of an company ..buy the stock...
If you are so sure of technical analysis --why worry about what's happening in the world..the "graphs" should be able to tell you that it....

Stocks are "longgggggggg" term instruments...in India all are for "fast bucks" ..it's as though its always boom and bang..this notion is wrong...
People buy when its boom and sell when there is a crash ..since they only go with the what the herd does and what media feeds them...

Keep stocks through couple of cycles of booms and bangs..at end of 10 years you would average out big gains...

And for heavens sake don't blame the PM for your decisions in stocks ...its like blaming a car since you had an accident....

Treat stocks as 10 year fixed deposit..which cannot be prematurely withdrawn..!!

Agree. But in the long run only one in maybe 100 survive and give a decent return. Its difficult for the me to pick the next infosys.

Agree :) And one cant blame them, that's the phenomena across geographies across timelines.

Yes agree, e.g TCS since its IPO has gone up 10 times crashed to IPO levels and then again up 10+ times. But picking it was pure luck for me, wont credit my grey cells for it.

That was just a click bait, the way online news portal put Modi's name in every other article ;)

Both the guys have different approach, hope both will succeed in their efforts of improving India.

I still have NTPC since its IPO, returns are worse than a FD.
Again that's solely my experience that stock picking is very difficult. Others mileage may differ :)
