Depository Charges - HDFC Demat

#1
Hi Everyone,

I had a question about something called "Depository Charges" levied by HDFC Demat account. This is a charge (0.04% of the transaction value, or Rs. 20, which ever is higher) that they levy whenever shares are debited from my demat account (when I sell any shares).

I wanted to know if this is a common practice with other demat accounts also. I feel that the amount is quite steep, especially after paying brokerage to HDFC Securities (0.5% or Rs 25 min) and also paying the annual maintenance fees of Rs 500 to the HDFC Demat account.

Do other demat account providers also charge this? If yes, what are the charges?

Thanks

Yes, this is common and normally you get the DP bill transaction charges monthly. In that bill, it will be reflected which equity is sold from DP a/c and their charges.

Have a wise and safe Investment

Rs 10 - Rs 20 is normal and most DP's will charge you in that range.

The part about 0.04% is quite unfair! There should be a flat rate per scrip sold per day. It's not as if the work rises proportionately.

Geojit charges Rs. 11 flat for the same.

Kotak securities charges 0.04% or Rs 22 whichever is higher.

Sharekhan does not charge anything, but there condition is that minimum brokerage should be 16. If I am selling shares worth Rs 4000 or more(my brokerage is 0.4%), I need not pay anything extra for demat charges

Is that Rs. 16 per scrip or per contract note?

What is the charge for ICICIDirect? I never bothered to check. Is this included in the brokerage or charged separately?

Regards,
Sudhanshu
separately.

the billing for demat account is done separately.

ICICIDirect must be sending you either physical bills or e-bills for the demat account.
