IPO Allotment Letter

#1
Hi Everyone,

In order to file taxes, I would need the IPO Allotment letter which would specify how many shares I got of a particular company and at what price. But the problem is, I do not remember getting any such letter in my mail box for Reliance Power IPO allotment nor for Future Group. These are the only two IPOs I had applied for. In such a case, what can I do to get the allotment letter.

Any pointers would be really helpful. Thanks!

For filing Income-Tax Return you need not to have "allotment letter" except if you are liable to get your accounts audited.
In normal case (when accounts are not audited) you file return on self-declaration basis.

However for any IPO, you will received "Confirmation of Allotment Note (CAN)" letter:
1. In case of ECS (for refund) you get along with a slip that states that the refund amount has already been deposited in your account.
2. Else you receive it as a counter part of refund-cheque.

Hey ashish,

Thanks for the quick reply.

So according to you, I do not need any proof while filing the return?

I did get all the refund slips (for remaining amount) but I did not get CAN letter. What should I do if I need that?

There are two parts of the refund order.

When refund is made by cheque:

CAN (Confirmation of Allotment) slip comes attached left of the cheque.

When refund is made by ECS:

CAN (Confirmation of Allotment) slip comes attached left of the ECS intimation.

Hi... yes I checked the ECS intimation and it does have another leaf which is the CAN. Either I didn't notice it earlier or just ignored it. Thanks for the info!

I case I have lost a CAN, is there a way to get another copy, just for my records.. either in paper or online?

Not sure about duplicate CAN, but you can write to the registrar about it.

Different IT officers have different views, but I think it would be enough if you just give them your demat account statement showing the credit of shares.
